- 1/2 cup dried lentils

- 1 cup walla walla sweet onions, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, smashed or chopped
- 1/4 cup red bell peppers, diced
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- salt and pepper
- 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed (Note: you can also use butter beans)
- 2 Tablespoons chili paste
- 3 Tablespoons agave nectar
- 1/2 cup panko breading

%20I%20wanted%20to%20get%20this%20post%20up%20because%20I%20know%20all%20you%20veggies%20are%20going%20to%20want%20to%20serve%20this%20burger%20at%20your%20own%20(or%20someone%20elses)%20Fourth%20of%20July%20celebration.%20I%20didn't%20want%20to%20disappoint...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOk,%20ok,%20I%20know%20you're%20all%20probably%20sick%20of%20little%20burgers%20popping%20up%20on%20my%20blog;%20but%20I%20couldn't%20help%20it!%20Just%20one%20more!%20And%20have%20sympathy%20for%20my%20family%20who%20had%20to%20eat%20them%20after%20gorging%20themselves%20on%20burgers%20the%20day%20before%20at%20the%20throwdown!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20were%20really%20fun%20(and%20really%20fun%20to%20photograph)%20to%20put%20together%20and%20flavorful%20as%20all%20get%20out.%20Honey%20actually%20said%20'woah,%20if%20you%20had%20done%20these%20burgers%20for%20the%20throwdown%20you%20would%20have%20won%20the%20burger%20round!'%20Yes,%20he%20won%20the%20burger%20round%20with%20his%20heart%20stopping%20(litterally)%20meat%20burger%20and%20soupy%20potato%20salad...%20why?%20Got%20me.%20BUT%20let's%20not%20forget%20who%20won%20overall...%20moi.%20Thank%20you%20very%20much.%20Bragging%20rights%20are%20kind%20of%20a%20big%20deal%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20this%20burger...%20this%20one%20is%20different%20(obviously)%20than%20the%20crunchy%20one%20I%20made%20on%20Saturday.%20This%20one%20is%20lentil%20loaded%20with%20a%20kick.%20Easy%20to%20make,%20even%20easier%20to%20eat%20and%20fun%20to%20look%20at...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENeed:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDo:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20your%20lentils%20and%20water%20in%20a%20pot%20with%20a%20bit%20of%20salt%20and%20boil/simmer%20covered%20until%20lentils%20have%20soaked%20up%20all%20the%20water.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20pan,%20(side%20note:%20I%20got%20to%20use%20my%20new%20All%20Clad%20french%20skillet%20from%20the%20Swiackeys....%20faaabulous!%20Although%20it%20was%20so%20pretty%20I%20didn't%20want%20to%20'mess%20it%20up'...%20too%20late%20for%20that!)%20heat%20some%20oil%20and%20sautee%20the%20onions%20and%20garlic.%20Let%20them%20go%20for%20three%20or%20four%20minutes%20then%20add%20the%20bell%20pepper.%20Mix%20to%20combine%20and%20cook%20for%20another%20two%20minutes.%20To%20your%20mix%20add%20the%20cumin,%20coriander,%20salt%20and%20pepper.%20Let%20cook%20on%20med/low%20for%20another%20couple%20minutes%20until%20soft%20and%20fragrant.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20low%20bowl,%20(appropriate%20for%20effectively%20using%20a%20potato%20masher)%20put%20your%20butter%20beans.%20Give%20them%20a%20good%20mash%20with%20the%20potato%20masher.%20Then%20add%20your%20onion%20mix%20to%20the%20butter%20beans,%20combine%20and%20mash%20a%20little%20more.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20your%20big%20mix,%20add%20the%20chili%20paste%20and%20agave%20nectar.%20Using%20a%20spoon%20(or%20your%20clean%20hands%20if%20you%20so%20choose)%20combine%20everything%20together.%20Lastly,%20add%20the%20lentils%20and%20panko%20and%20mix%20again.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20you're%20all%20mixed%20up,%20test%20it%20by%20forming%20a%20patty.%20if%20it%20sticks%20together%20well,%20you're%20good,%20if%20it%20crumbles%20too%20much%20add%20more%20agave%20and/or%20chili%20paste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20your%20mix%20is%20forming%20patties%20appropriately,%20form%20all%20your%20patties%20and%20line%20them%20up%20like%20little%20soldiers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20a%20little%20oil%20in%20a%20pan%20for%20pan%20frying,%20or%20you%20can%20BBQ.%20I%20used%20my%20french%20skillet%20again...%20not%20the%20greatest%20for%20pan%20frying;%20non%20stick%20would%20be%20a%20lot%20easier%20to%20clean!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECook%20on%20one%20side%20on%20med/high%20heat%20then%20flip.%20Be%20careful%20when%20flipping!%20While%20they%20are%20cooking,%20prepare%20your%20veg.%20I%20did%20teeny%20roma%20tomatoes,%20dijon%20mustard%20and%20sunflower%20sprouts%20from%20the%20Farmer's%20Market...%20they're%20my%20new%20favorite,%20right%20up%20there%20with%20garlic%20scapes.%20I%20also%20used%20the%20King's%20Hawaiian%20sweet%20rolls%20again.%20They're%20eensy%20like%20the%20slider%20patties%20and%20tasty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20served%20family%20style;%20patties%20on%20one%20plate,%20rolls%20on%20another,%20veg%20on%20another.%20You%20can%20also%20plate%20them%20for%20everyone%20and%20wow%20them%20with%20your%20non-meat%20patty%20cooking%20creating%20wonderfulness.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStart%20with%20a%20King's%20Hawaiian%20roll,%20sliced%20in%20half%20the%20burger%20way...%20put%20a%20little%20dijon%20on%20the%20bottom,%20then%20a%20lurvely%20patty,%20then%20some%20roma%20and%20sunflower%20sprouts%20and%20top%20with%20the%20top%20part%20of%20your%20bun.%20If%20you%20want%20to%20use%20ketchup%20you%20can%20but%20I%20think%20ketchup%20kills%20the%20flavor%20of%20any%20burger...%20I'm%20just%20saying.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnjoy!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
