About me

I learned to cook from my mom and other family and friends, but mostly by experimenting on my own. My mom always said that anyone who can read (a recipe) can cook and I believe that, too. It just takes the desire to do so. I now have quite a collection of cookbooks. My family grew up having dinner together and I have tried to maintain that with my own family. I like to follow a recipe the first time and then customize it to make it my own. I try to use fresh, locally grown ingredients, especially from farmer's markets, and putting together simple but delicious meals that my family and friends can enjoy together. In addition to getting dinner on the table every night, I mainly cook for relaxation and as a creative outlet. When I'm not cooking or reading recipes, I'm writing, reading, doing community service work, and spending time with my husband and three kids whenever they are home, which is not as often as they used to be as they fly away to be on their own (the kids not my husband).
