%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20went%20to%20bed%20at%208:15%20last%20night.%20%20This%20behavior%20isn%E2%80%99t%20all%20together%20out%20of%20the%20ordinary%20for%20me,%20though,%20as%20my%20closest%20comrades%20probably%20know.%20%20There%E2%80%99s%20nothing%20wrong%20with%20liking%20your%20sleep,%20right?%20%20And%20it%20is%20perfect%20because%20the%20Omnivore%20likes%20his%20shut-eye,%20too.%20%20The%20thing%20about%20last%20night,%20though,%20was%20that%20it%20was%20New%20Year%E2%80%99s%20Eve.%20Yeah.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20one%20day%20of%20the%20year%20that%20even%20the%20most%20adamant%20sleepers%20stay%20up%20extra%20late%20to%20ring%20in%20the%20new%20year.%20%20And,%20in%20the%20case%20of%20last%20night,%20a%20new%20decade.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20guess%20that%20shows%20you%20how%20much%20New%20Year%E2%80%99s%20means%20to%20me.%20%20I%20find%20the%20event%20and%20hooplah,%20in%20and%20of%20itself,%20mostly%20optional.%20%20Many%20years%20I%20opt-in.%20%20Most%20years%20I%20opt-out.%20%20I%20do,%20however,%20cherish%20the%20mentality%20that%20comes%20with%20the%20New%20Year.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStarting%20afresh.%20%20Self%20betterment.%20%20Goodbye%20to%20your%20vices.%20%20Hello%20to%20good%20habits.%20%20Reflection.%20%20Retrospection.%20%20That%E2%80%99s%20all%20healthy.%20%20And%20I%20believe,%20very%20important.%20%20I%20started%20the%20annual%20bout%20of%20end-of-year%20analysis%20a%20few%20weeks%20before%20Thanksgiving%20in%20November.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20then%20that%20I%20decided%20to%20try%20eating%20meat.%20%20Just%20for%20a%20little%20while.%20%20Not%20very%20often.%20%20Just%20to%20see%20how%20it%20felt.%20%20I%20had%20been%20a%20vegetarian%20for%20a%20solid%205%20years%20by%20that%20time,%20and%20I%20think%20it%20is%20healthy%20to%20revisit%20my%20reasons%20for%20avoiding%20something%20that%20many%20people%20consider%20a%20staple.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMost%20days%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20feel%20like%20eating%20meat.%20%20That%E2%80%99s%20a%20weird%20feeling%20to%20describe.%20%20Most%20days%20I%20continue%20to%20cook%20one%20meal%20for%20the%20Omnivore%20and%20a%20different%20version%20for%20myself.%20%20The%20day%20I%20made%20the%20following%20recipe,%20I%20really%20didn%E2%80%99t%20feel%20like%20eating%20meat.%20%20Especially%20ground%20meat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20thought%20of%20rolling%20these%20turkey%20meatballs%20just%20annoyed%20me.%20%20And%20cooking%20them%20in%20a%20tomato%20sauce.%20%20Bored.to.tears.%20%20But%20it%20is%20what%20had%20been%20planned%20for%20dinner.%20%20And%20I%20had%20no%20other%20options.%20%20And%20so%20I%20followed%20the%20plan.%20%20Made%20the%20meatballs.%20%20And%20choked%20down%20the%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWell%E2%80%A6I%20scarfed%20down%20the%20meal.%20%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20if%20it%20was%20so%20delicious%20because%20I%20literally%20think%20the%20last%20time%20I%20had%20a%20meatball%20was%2010%20years%20ago,%20or%20because%20this%20recipe%20is%20*that*%20good.%20%20I%20think%20it%20is%20the%20recipe,%20though,%20because%20the%20Omnivore%20went%20crazy%20over%20the%20food%20as%20well.%20%20I%20never%20new%20balls%20of%20meat%20could%20be%20so%20light%20and%20tender!%20%20I%20expected%20chewy%20beef-jerky%20type%20balls%20in%20an%20Italian%20flavored%20tomato-y%20paste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20meal%20was%20nothing%20like%20that.%20%20The%20cumin%20and%20cinnamon%20adds%20such%20a%20Mediterranean%20and%20exotic%20feel.%20%20This%20dish%20tasted%20nothing%20like%20Italy.%20%20The%20combination%20of%20both%20parsley%20and%20cilantro%20took%20me%20by%20surprise%20but%20they%20did%20not%20compete%20with%20one%20another.%20%20It%20was%20absolutely%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETurkey%20and%20Tomato%20Tagine%20(the%20Healthy%20cookbook)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20meatballs%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20375*.%20%20Combine%20all%20ingredients%20for%20the%20meatballs%20and%20shape%20into%2020%20walnut%20sized%20balls.%20%20In%20a%20nonstick%20skillet,%20lightly%20cook%20the%20meatballs%20on%202-3%20sides%20and%20then%20place%20into%20a%209%C3%9713%E2%80%B3%20baking%20pan.%20%20Bake%20the%20meatballs%20while%20making%20the%20sauce.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPut%20onion%20and%20garlic%20in%20a%20pan%20with%201/2%20cup%20liquid.%20%20Cook%20over%20low%20heat%20until%20the%20liquid%20has%20evaporated%20and%20onions%20turn%20brown.%20%20Add%20remaining%20liquid%20to%20the%20pan%20with%20the%20remaining%20ingredients.%20%20Simmer%205%20minutes;%20add%20parsley.%20%20Add%20salt%20to%20taste.%20%20Add%20meatballs%20from%20oven%20(after%20draining%20away%20fat)%20to%20the%20sauce.%20%20Simmer%205-10%20minutes.%20%20Serve%20over%20hot%20cooked%20rice%20or%20cous%20cous%20with%20plenty%20of%20cilantro%20and%20parsley.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
