%20or%20making%20sure%20to%20herald%20Halloween%20cocktails%20each%20year.%20Some%20annual%20events/topics%20stick%20around,%20while%20others%E2%80%94like%20Centerpiece%20of%20the%20Month%20or%20Brown%20Bag%20Blues%E2%80%94go%20by%20the%20wayside%20(the%20centerpieces%20took%20way%20too%20much%20time%20to%20manage,%20and%20my%20brown%20bag%20blues%20blog%20finally%20slid%20into%20the%20snacks%20category%20of%20Talk%20of%20Tomatoes).%20Emerging%20traditions:%20annual%20ruminations%20re:%20crops,%20roundups%20of%20Thanksgiving%20side%20dishes,%20a%20trove%20of%20Christmas%20Cookie%20Recipes%20and%20providing%20you%20with%20a%20killer%20New%20Year%E2%80%99s%20Eve%20cocktail%20to%20ring%20in%20each%20New%20Year%20(check%20out%202010,%202011,%202012).%20For%202013%20I%20am%20thrilled%20to%20share%20my%20Irish%20strawberry%20liquor%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECome%20to%20think%20of%20it:%20my%20blog%20tradition%20is%20less%20about%20repetition%20and%20more%20about%20evolution.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOver%206%20years,%20my%20blog%20has%20morphed%20from%20a%20parade%20of%20recipes%20to%20a%20focus%20on%20Italian%20food%20(we%20lived%20in%20Italy%20for%20a%20year%20plus%20I%20visited%20again%20thanks%20to%20DaVinci%20Wine),%20to%20a%20documentation%20of%20culinary%20school%20(including%205%20weird%20things%20I%20learned).%20Today%20Talk%20of%20Tomatoes%20is%20where%20I%20flex%20my%20urban%20farmer%20muscles%20and%20talk%20incessantly%20about%20home%20canning,%20meeting%20farmers%20and%20cooking%20with%20the%20seasons.%20It%20has%20always%20been%20about%20my%20food%20curiosities%20and%20culinary%20whims,%20embracing%20holidays%20and%20soaking%20up%20the%20next%20social%20media%20outlet%20(currently%20loving:%20Pinterest).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20and%20I%20are%20staring%20another%20year%20in%20the%20face.%20We%20are%20standing%20at%20the%20starting%20line%E2%80%94the%20front%20gate.%20What%20will%20this%20year%20hold?%20What%20changes%20and%20challenges%20will%20you%20embrace?%20What%20will%20you%20learn?%20Who%20will%20you%20meet?%20Will%20you%20add%20a%20new%20tradition?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20my%20second%20year%20making%20Irish%20Strawberry%20Liqueur.%20Which%20means:%20it%20is%20well%20on%20its%20way%20to%20becoming%20a%20tradition.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIrish%20Strawberry%20Liqueur%20Recipe%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Esmall%20caveat:%20you%20can%20make%20it%20now,%20but%20you%20won%E2%80%99t%20be%20able%20to%20drink%20it%20until%E2%80%A6%20later.%20Perhaps%20a%20few%20months%E2%80%94but%20so%20worth%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20in%20jar,%20place%20lid%20and%20store%20in%20dark%20cool%20cupboard%20or%20pantry.%20When%20you%20remember%20it%20is%20there,%20strain%20and%20decant%20into%20a%20pretty%20bottle.%20Share%20as%20needed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don%E2%80%99t%20adore%20the%20texture%20of%20Irish%20Strawberries,%20but%20they%20grow%20wild%20in%20the%20PNW%20(including%20one%20straggler%20in%20my%20front%20yard),%20so%20I%20aimed%20to%20comprehend%20its%20potential.%20It%20made%20really%20gritty%20fruit%20leather,%20and%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20prefer%20them%20plain.%20I%20made%20liqueur%20last%20season,%20then%20forgot%20about%20it%20for%209%20months%20(3-4%20months%20is%20plenty%20for%20the%20liqueur%20to%20be%20done%E2%80%94but%209%20was%20fantastic!).%20Upon%20first%20sip,%20I%20was%20reminded%20of%20nocciola%E2%80%94a%20green%20walnut%20liqueur%20made%20in%20parts%20of%20southern%20Tuscany.%20Divine.%20I%20feel%20like%20I%20just%20happened%20upon%20my%20very%20own%20specialty%20liqueur%20(from%20my%20own%20yard!).%20It%20is%20a%20perfect%20for%20post-dinner%20sipping;%20I%20also%20added%20it%20to%20bourbon%20in%20place%20of%20sweet%20vermouth%20to%20make%20Manhattans%20(brilliant%20and%20worth%20repeating).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIrish%20strawberry%20trees%20don%E2%80%99t%20grow%20everywhere,%20but%20find%20out%20if%20they%20are%20near%20you%E2%80%94in%20which%20case%20you%20can%20put%20the%20fruit%20to%20good%20use!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
