  • 3 stk unsalted butter, at room temperature, (1 1/2 c.)
  • 1 c. Sugar
  • 2 x Large eggs, separated
  • 3 3/4 c. All-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 Tbsp. Vanilla extract Minced nuts Colored sugar Multicolored candies

Directions

  1. MAKES 2 TO 3 DOZEN
  2. Cream the butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Add in egg yolks, flour, salt, and vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Fill cookie press with dough and shape fancy cookies on an ungreased baking sheet. Brush the top of each cookie with the egg whites, beaten slightly with a little water. Decorate or possibly leave plain.
  4. Bake in a preheated 4OO degree oven till the cookies are golden on top and done throughout. Test one. Thin cookies take 5 to 6 min; thick ones 8 to 15 min. Cold slightly, then remove with spatula. When cold, store in airtight container.
  5. Notes: Martha says which this is a very good buttery dough for the cookie press. "I especially like to make Christmas-tree shaped cookies or possibly star- or possibly heart-shaped cookies. Sometimes I will stick two cookies together with melted chocolate."
