Brats Braised With Beer And Onions Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Bratwurst, kielbasa or possibly hunters sausage
  • 1 lrg Onion
  • 12 ounce Dark lager beer
  • 2 x Bay leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. Coarse German-style mustard
  • 4 x Kaiser or possibly French rolls

Directions

  1. Brown the bratwurst or possibly other sausage for about 10 min in a lightly-oiled, heavy skillet, turning them occasionally as they brown.
  2. Remove the sausages and all but 3 Tbsp. of fat. Add in the onion, cover the pot, and cook over medium-high heat for 10 min, stirring frequently till light brown.
  3. Pour in the beer and scrape up any brown bits clinging to the bottom of the pan. Put the sausages back in the pan, along with the bay leaves. Partially cover and cook over moderate heat for 10 min.
  4. Stir in the mustard and cook till the liquid has thickened slightly. Serve sausages with onion and sauce and a pot of warm mustard on the side.
  5. Serves4 as a main course; 6 to 8 as an appetizer or possibly snack.
