Whew! What a couple of days it's been! Cooking and baking up a storm - for THREE people! That's right, the famdamly didn't drive up this year because of the weather...so, so sad for me!! I had already puchased my Thanksgiving supplies so I had to make the entire feast - and I did - and we ate and ate and ate and it was glorious!!! We went into the dining room as three starving people and exited as the Three Pigs...so today is not Black Friday because of shopping...oh no, it's Black Friday because I'm under the illusion that if I WEAR BLACK I'll hide the 7 to 10 pounds I gained yesterday! I haven't actually gotten on the scale but I'm sure it was at least that much...
The 21 lb. turkey was a bit big for my counter-top roaster…

%20for%20pies%20and%20sides%20and%20rolls,%20it's%20the%20right%20thing%20to%20do!%20%20The%20turkey%20was%20the%20star,%20of%20course,%20but%20a%20couple%20of%20other%20turkeys%20showed%20up...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20refused%20to%20wear%20the%20hats%20until%20I%20said%20NOBODY%20EATS%20UNTIL%20I%20GET%20MY%20PICTURE!!%20%20In%20a%20sweet%20voice,%20naturally,%20and%20so%20they%20put%20them%20on%20but%20refused%20to%20show%20their%20faces...I%20didn't%20make%20them%20eat%20with%20them%20on,%20I'm%20not%20cruel....and%20besides,%20I%20couldn't%20have%20risked%20having%20them%20get%20food%20on%20them!%20%20We%20sat%20down%20at%20the%20table%20and%20before%20I%20brought%20in%20the%20food%20I%20made%20them%20read%20a%20small%20children's%20book%20called%20The%20Pilgrim's%20Story...it's%20about%2012%20paragraphs%20long...of%20course%20they%20protested...but%20I%20said,%20again%20in%20my%20sweet,%20soft%20voice,%20NOBODY%20EATS%20UNTIL%20YOU%20READ%20THE%20BOOK!%20%20And%20so%20they%20read...and%20after%20each%20paragraph%20they%20injected%20their%20snide%20remarks,%20thinking%20they%20were%20hilarious...and%20they%20were.%20%20Finally%20the%20feasting%20began...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlong%20with%20the%20Maple/Orange%20Glazed%20Turkey%20we%20had:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPureed%20Pan%20Gravy%20-%20the%20best%20tasting%20gravy%20ever%20-%20no%20flour,%20no%20corn-starch,%20no%20lumps...it's%20miracle%20liquid!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMashed%20potatoes...the%20secret%20to%20good%20mashers%20is%20butter...1%20dozen%20peeled%20potatoes%20needs%20two%20sticks%20of%20butter%20and%20just%20a%20tad%20of%20milk...feel%20free%20to%20quote%20me%20on%20this.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStuffed%20celery...it's%20a%20family%20tradition%20-%20stuffed%20with%20cheese%20that%20comes%20in%20little%20jars...artery%20clogging%20processed%20cheese%20on%20celery...polar%20opposites,%20like%20being%20a%20Republican%20in%20Seattle%20or%20a%20Democrat%20on%20the%20Eastside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECreamed%20onions...recipe%20courtesy%20of%20Smitten%20Kitchen,%20she%20said%20they%20were%20great%20and%20they%20were!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBraised%20Red%20Cabbage...another%20family%20tradition%20-%20cooked%20in%20red%20wine%20with%20molasses%20and%20apples...nothing%20like%20what%20you%20would%20expect%20-%20sweet%20and%20tasty!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStuffing...no%20oysters%20or%20cornbread%20but%20the%20mister%20lapped%20it%20up,%20saying%20it%20was%20the%20best%20ever.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERaspberry%20Jell-O%20salad...another%20family%20tradition...there's%20always%20room%20for%20Jell-O!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESweet%20Potato%20Casserole...the%20boy%20wouldn't%20touch%20it%20but%20the%20mister%20who%20claims%20to%20have%20a%20natural%20aversion%20to%20the%20stuff%20had%20two%20servings...two!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGreen%20Beans%20with%20potato%20chips...yep,%20you%20read%20that%20right...green%20beans%20cooked%20crisp-tender%20then%20drenched%20in%20cream%20of%20mushroom%20soup%20and%20a%20bit%20of%20soy%20sauce%20then%20topped%20with%20crunched%20up%20potato%20chips...it's%20the%20salt%20in%20the%20chips%20that%20makes%20this%20the%20mister's%20favorite...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPumpkin-Pear%20Soup...we%20started%20our%20meal%20with%20shots%20of%20this%20-%20sweet%20with%20a%20hint%20of%20curry...recipe%20will%20be%20up%20soon%20as%20you'll%20want%20to%20make%20this%20over%20the%20holidays%20-%20yes,%20you%20will!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHomemade%20rolls...After%20watching%20the%20parade%20AND%20the%20dog%20show%20on%20TV%20I%20was%20thinking%20everything%20was%20under%20control%20and%20then%20I%20remembered%20I%20hadn't%20made%20the%20rolls!!!%20%20Fortunately%20I%20had%20just%20enough%20time%20so%20they%20were%20hot%20out%20of%20the%20oven%20right%20as%20we%20sat%20down!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20we%20had%20pie...Cherry%20Cream%20Pie%20(recipe%20coming%20soon!)%20and%20Paula's%20Pumpkin%20Pie%20%20-%20that%20would%20be%20Paula%20Deen's%20Pie%20so%20you%20know%20it's%20loaded%20with%20goodness!%20%20And%20we%20had%20French%20Cran-Apple-Almond%20Pie%20...and%20then,%20on%20the%207th%20day,%20seeing%20it%20was%20good,%20we%20rested%20from%20our%20work%20and%20ate%20and%20slept.%20%20And%20we%20slept%20some%20more.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20now%20we%20have%20leftovers!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHope%20your%20Thanksgiving%20was%20equally%20as%20grand!%20%20Just%20typing%20all%20of%20this%20has%20me%20reaching%20for%20another%20Alka-Seltzer...plop,%20plop,%20fizz,%20fizz,%20oh%20what%20a%20relief%20it%20is!%20%20Now%20I%20must%20go%20for%20a%20waddle%20walk...I%20need%20to%20squeeze%20into%20my%20black%20pants%20so%20I%20can%20go%20shopping!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
