Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 c. flour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 2 tbsp. sugar

Directions

  1. Combine flour, ginger, soda, cloves, cinnamon and salt; set aside. Beat sugar and shortening till fluffy. Add in egg and molasses; beat well. Stir dry ingredients into beaten mix. Shape into 1 1/2 inch balls. Roll in the 2 Tbsp. sugar and place on an ungreased cookie sheet, about 2 1/2 inches apart.
  2. Bake in a 350 degree oven about 10 min till light brown and still puffed. Don't over bake. Let stand 2 min before removing from pan. Makes 24 three inch cookies.
