Directions

  1. Spread peanuts out on a baking sheet and heat them up in your oven set on 300 degrees. This will hot up the peanuts so which they do not cold the candy too quickly when added later. There's no need to preheat the oven.
  2. Heat the butter in a medium saucepan over medium/low heat.
  3. Add in sugar and corn syrup and simmer, stirring occasionally. Put a candy thermometer in the mix and watch it closely.
  4. When the mix reaches 300 degrees add in peanuts and stir well till all of the peanuts are coated with candy. Pour the candy onto the hot baking sheet and spread it flat. When the candy cools, break it into chunks and store it in a covered container.
  5. Makes the equivalent of 12 1.5-oz candy bars.
  6. If you check out my candy bar wrapper collection from the mid-70's here, you'll see what the wrapper for this bar used to look like before also see what candy bars looked like when they were only 15 cents!). Now the peanut-riddled Munch Bar is called Snickers Munch Bar and it takes only four ingredients plus a candy thermometer to clone the equivalent of 12 of these addictive candy bars in your own kitchen. Be sure the dry roasted peanuts you use are the salted kind, and watch which thermometer closely once the candy gets simmering.
