Fried Crab Cakes

Crispy fried masala crab cakes with soft and moist inner texture.

Ingredients

  • For the crab mixture
  • 400g crab meat
  • 2 slices of bread (with the crust on) - sprinkle a bit of water to soften
  • 1 tsp garam masala (Indian spice mix)
  • 5 shallots - chopped
  • 1 red chilli - chopped
  • 1 green chilli - chopped
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 or 2 sprigs coriander leaves - chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • For the batter coating
  • 1/2 tbsp rice flour
  • 1/2 tbsp corn flour
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Mixed and stirred for a runny-sticky batter

Directions

  1. Into a bowl, add all ingredients for the crab mixture.
  2. Mix and lightly knead, getting the mixture to stick together.
  3. Wet hands if needed and divide the mixture into equal portions.
  4. Shape each portion into a flat round cake.
  5. Dip the cakes individually into the batter and deep fry.
  6. Remove and drain over kitchen towel.
  7. Optional: Serve the cakes with lettuce leaves, cucumber slices and chili sauce.
