  • 2 lb Beef filet or possibly sirloin
  • 1 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. Toasted sesame seed *
  • 4 Tbsp. Light soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. Water
  • 1 Tbsp. Oil
  • 2 Tbsp. Chopped scallions Tabasco sauce to taste
  • 1 x Clove garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Freshly grated ginger

Directions

  1. * Toasted sesame seed: Place 1 c. sesame seed and 1 tsp. salt in a skillet, brown seeds slowly till they are toast colored and puffed. Stir constantly while toasting. Remove from heat and allow to cold. Pulverize seeds in a mortar or possibly a blender. Store in a tightly capped bottle.
  2. Cut beef into very thin strips and lb. to flatten; then cut into medium size squares. Combine all the other ingredients. The marinade, as the name of the dish implies, should be quite fiery. Mix meat and marinade and set aside for 4 to 5 hrs, or possibly longer if refrigerated. Broil very quickly over warm charcoal, dip in Bulgoki sauce (next recipe) and serve immediately with white rice.
  3. NOTE: The marinated beef can also be fried in warm peanut oil for just a few min.
