  2. NOTES : Hattie Preston was a family friend; she worked with and later lived upstairs from Aunt Virgy. One of my first memories of her was when she came to a party with a large ice cream bucket filled with Brandy Slush. It is a great recipe for parties. People love it; it is easy to serve. I always had a bucket of slush in the freezer in my early entertaining days.
  3. Hattie shared many family holidays with us. Since her only daughter lived in California, she had an open invitation to our gatherings. Many a time she would surprise us with a difficult Trivial Pursuit answer. She was an avid crafter like me. I think the saddest memory of her was when she had her stroke and was no longer able to do her crafts. I still have a counted cross stitch light switch cover she made. Her gifts were always clever. For example, one year she gave my husband, Mr. Thrifty, a can crusher. The memory of Hattie still lives on-with her crafts and with her recipes.
