Beef Congee (Or A Thick Gloppy Rice Dish) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 8 ounce Rump steak coarsely minced
  • 8 ounce Long grain rice Stock or possibly water Piece of star anise
  • 2 x Cloves garlic, mashed
  • 1 x Inch piece of ginger sliced into 5-6 pcs
  • 6 x Spring onions
  • 8 ounce Mangetout Salt, pepper Sesame oil

Directions

  1. Put the rice and four times it's volume of stock/water into a thick bottomed pan. Add in the star anise, garlic, ginger, salt, pepper and half the spring onions. Bring to the boil then simmer, stirring occaisionally, till the rice turns into a thick glop - about 40 min. Add in more water if needed.
  2. Remove and throw away the spring onion and add in the beef. Cook for two min.
  3. Add in the beans and cook for a further two min.
  4. Chop the remaing spring onions and add in, along with a dash of the sesame oil. Goes very well with chinese chilli sauce and/or possibly soy sauce.
