,%20panthers%20stealing%20pigs,%20and%20the%20dreaded%20outlaw%20Zipp%20Wyatt%20(aka%20Dick%20Yeager).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWell,%20such%20is%20the%20family%20lore.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20really%20wonder%20how%20they%20made%20it.%20%20%20%20I%20remember%20my%20great-grandmother%20as%20a%20frail%20woman%20but%20she%20had%20to%20be%20tough-as-nails%20to%20have%20lived%20through%20all%20of%20these%20tribulations%20at%20the%20age%20of%20six.%20%20%20%20I%20can%20just%20picture%20her%20picking%20wild%20grapes%20so%20her%20mother%20could%20make%20jelly,%20probably%20the%20only%20sweet%20they%20might%20have%20during%20the%20winter%20months.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWild%20Grape%20Jelly%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20was%20written%20in%20my%20grandmother%E2%80%99s%20hand,%20passed%20down%20from%20her%20mother.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECut%20small%20bunches%20of%20grapes%20from%20large%20stems.%20%20Wash%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECover%20with%20water,%20bring%20to%20a%20boil%20and%20simmer%2020%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDrain%20through%20colander%20lined%20with%20cheese%20cloth%20or%20thin%20muslin.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20calls%20for%20pectin.%20%20Since%20the%20pioneer%20women%20did%20not%20have%20this%20they%20would%20cook%20some%20green%20fruit%20with%20the%20ripe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20to%20a%20boil.%20%20Add%201%20package%20powdered%20fruit%20pectin%20and%20bring%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil.%20%20Stir%20in%207%201/2%20cups%20of%20sugar.%20%20Bring%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil%20and%20boil%20hard%20for%201%20minute%20stirring%20constantly.%20%20Remove%20from%20heat.%20%20Skim.%20%20Pour%20into%20hot%20jars%20and%20seal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20look%20at%20that%20color%E2%80%94beautiful.%20%20(Those%20are%20Niagra%20grapes%20from%20our%20vines.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20we%20didn%E2%80%99t%20use%20wild%20grapes%20but%20the%20grapes%20from%20our%20mini-vineyard.%20%20%20%20This%20is%20delicious%20and%20again%20it%20is%20a%20great%20pairing%20with%20peanut%20butter!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20grape%20jelly%20homage%20to%20my%20ancestors.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStay%20tuned%20for%20at%20least%20one%20more%20post%20in%20Gala%20of%20Grapes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETip%20of%20the%20day:%20%20%20%20%20Place%20your%20jars%20on%20a%20clean%20towel%20and%20then%20(once%20the%20burner%20is%20turned%20off),%20place%20a%20newspaper%20in%20between%20the%20jelly%20pot%20and%20the%20jars.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20will%20catch%20any%20drips%20and%20make%20for%20an%20easy%20clean%20up.%20%20%20%20That%20is%20unless%20you%20are%20more%20careful%20than%20I%20am%20and%20you%20can%20make%20it%20from%20the%20pot%20to%20jars%20without%20any%20drips.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20am%20a%20truly%20messy%20cook.%20PLEASE%20make%20sure%20your%20flame%20is%20off%20before%20doing%20this.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20finally,%20a%20big%20thank%20you%20to%20Choc%20Chip%20Uru.%20%20%20She%20was%20kind%20enough%20to%20award%20Eliot%E2%80%99s%20Eats%20with%20another%20Versatile%20Blogger%20Award.%20%20%20If%20you%20have%20not%20been%20over%20at%20CCU%E2%80%99s%20site,%20please%20hop%20on%20over.%20%20This%20young%20lady%20has%20a%20wealth%20of%20culinary%20knowledge%20and%20her%20sweets%20are%20out%20of%20this%20world.%20%20%20%20%20She%20also%20posts%20some%20pretty%20entertaining%20restaurant%20reviews%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThanks,%20CCU!!!!!!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
