%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESoup%20to%20me%20is%20an%20easy%20meal,%20the%20dish%20I%20prepare%20when%20I%20am%20exhausted,%20or%20when%20we%20have%20got%20home%20late.%20Dave%20and%20I%20have%20a%20fairly%20active%20social%20life,%20but%20we%20tend%20not%20to%20have%20two%20late%20nights%20in%20a%20row%20if%20we%20can%20help%20it.%20The%20alarm%20goes%20off%20at%20a%20quarter%20to%20six%20during%20the%20week%20for%20work,%20and%20a%20late%20morning%20on%20the%20weekend%20means%20we%20sleep%20in%20until%20seven.%20This%20seldom%20happens%20as%20I%20am%20usually%20awake%20by%20five%20most%20mornings.%20Because%20we%20wake%20up%20so%20early,%20ten%20pm%20is%20bed%20time.%20I%20read%20before%20we%20go%20to%20sleep%20unless%20I%20cannot%20keep%20my%20eyes%20open,%20but%20by%20half%20past%20ten%20the%20lights%20are%20off.%20A%20while%20back%20our%20normality%20was%20shattered.%20We%20started%20off%20the%20whirlwind%20with%20a%20braai%20in%20Cape%20Town%20with%20friends%20on%20a%20Saturday.%20This%20was%20followed%20by%20dinner%20out%20on%20the%20Wednesday%20at%20Waterkloof%20and%20supper%20at%20friends%20on%20the%20Thursday.%20On%20the%20Friday%20I%20made%20a%20simple%20lunch%20for%20house%20guests%20and%20then%20that%20night%20I%20had%208%20people%20for%20dinner%20at%20my%20house.%20Saturday%20we%20went%20wine%20tasting%20in%20the%20afternoon,%20and%20then%20out%20for%20dinner.%20The%20Sunday%20started%20off%20with%20wine%20tasting%20and%20then%20lunch,%20before%20Sunday%20dinner%20for%206%20of%20us.%20Monday%20lunch%20time%20we%20ate%20out%20and%20by%20Monday%20night%20I%20was%20ready%20for%20sleep!%20But,%20my%20social%20life%20was%20not%20in%20agreement%20and%20Tuesday%20night%20we%20had%20dinner%20at%20a%20friend%20followed%20by%20dinner%20for%206%20at%20our%20house%20the%20next%20night.%20My%20friends%20were%20here%20from%20London%20and%20I%20let%20them%20sleep%20in%20while%20I%20kept%20their%20kids%20busy%20in%20front%20of%20the%20TV.%20We%20had%20breakfast%20at%20our%20house%20and%20then%20lunch%20out.%20That%20night%20Dave%20and%20I%20went%20to%20Cape%20Town%20so%20that%20I%20could%20play%20travel%20agent%20and%20Dave%20could%20discuss%20business.%20We%20followed%20our%20meetings%20with%20dinner%20out%20and%20it%20was%20a%20late%20night.%20This%20however%20was%20not%20the%20end!%20We%20were%20meant%20to%20meet%20a%20friend%20for%20dinner%20on%20the%20Friday%20night,%20and%20despite%20both%20of%20us%20barely%20being%20able%20to%20keep%20our%20eyes%20open,%20we%20went%20to%20the%20restaurant.%20Sadly,%20he%20was%20unable%20to%20join%20us,%20and%20we%20had%20a%20very%20quick%20meal.%20The%20following%20day%20was%20hectic%20and%20we%20got%20home%20and%20we%20both%20collapsed%20on%20the%20couch%20with%20a%20bowl%20of%20pea%20and%20ham%20soup.%20It%20is%20so%20easy%20to%20make%20and%20as%20I%20always%20have%20bacon%20in%20my%20fridge%20and%20peas%20in%20my%20freezer%20this%20will%20easily%20become%20a%20quick%20fix%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4%20slices%20Parma%20ham%2030g%20butter%201%20onion,%20peeled,%20cut%20in%20half%20and%20sliced%20500g%20frozen%20peas%20Small%20handful%20of%20basil%20leaves%20750mls%20hot%20chicken%20stock%20100ml%20fresh%20cream%20Salt%20and%20freshly%20ground%20black%20pepper%20to%20season%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20ham%20into%20a%20large%20sauce%20pan%20and%20fry%20until%20crispy%20Remove%20and%20set%20aside%20Place%20the%20butter%20into%20the%20same%20sauce%20pan%20and%20allow%20to%20melt%20Add%20the%20onions,%20and%20saut%C3%A9%20over%20a%20low%20temperature%20until%20soft%20Add%20the%20peas,%20basil%20and%20stock%20Bring%20to%20the%20boil,%20reduce%20the%20temperature%20and%20simmer%20gently%20for%205%20minutes%20Remove%20from%20the%20heat%20and%20add%20the%20ham%20Using%20a%20stick%20blender,%20blend%20until%20smooth%20Add%20the%20cream%20and%20return%20to%20the%20heat%20on%20a%20medium%20temperature%20When%20warmed%20through%20add%20your%20seasoning%20and%20serve%20%203.3.3070%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClick%20on%20the%20links%20for%20conversions%20and%20notes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFood%20for%20Your%20Brood%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDisclosure:%20I%20was%20sent%20the%20book%20to%20review%20by%20Penguin%20Random%20House%20South%20Africa%20and%20this%20recipe%20formed%20part%20of%20the%20review%20and%20is%20published%20with%20permission.%20This%20post%20is%20in%20line%20with%20my%20blogging%20policy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20I%20blogged%20June%2022:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETandy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETop%20of%20Page%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVN:F%20[1.9.22_1171]%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERating:%200.0/10%20(0%20votes%20cast)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAbout%20Tandy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETandy%20is%20passionate%20about%20using%20regional,%20seasonable%20and%20sustainable%20produce%20when%20she%20cooks.%20She%20lives%20in%20Gordons%20Bay%20in%20a%20cottage%20with%20her%20husband,%20three%20dogs,%20a%20tortoise%20and%20a%20fish.%20Tandy%20and%20Dave%20are%20busy%20building%20a%20house%20which%20is%20an%20adventure%20all%20in%20itself.%20Each%
