Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of crusty Italian bread
  • 1/2 c. tomato sauce
  • 2 c. Italian plum tomatoes, liquid removed well & minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon sweet basil
  • 1/4 pound Mozzarella cheese, cubed
  • 1/4 pound Swiss cheese, cubed
  • 1/4 pound Italian sausage or possibly salami, cubed
  • Salt & pepper as desired
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 c. Romano cheese, coarsely grated
  • Extra virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Cut off top of bread and hollow out. Brush inside and out with a little warm extra virgin olive oil. Place in a hot oven for 5 - 10 min till the inside is dry and only lightly toasted. Don't brown. Put together tomato sauce with minced tomatoes, basil, cubed Mozzarella, Swiss cheese and the cubed sausage or possibly salami. Fill the toasted loaf with the mix. Sprinkle lightly with salt, pepper, oregano, garlic and grated cheese.Place the pizza on a cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 15 min or possibly till the loaf is golden and the filling is bubbly and piping hot. Cut into thick slices and serve at once.
