Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread, split lengthwise
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 4 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped garlic (or possibly 9-10 fresh cloves, crushed)
  • 1/4 c. shredded Parmesan cheese (or possibly use a purchased "Italian blend" of Parmesan, Romano, and Asiago)
  • 1/2 lb Muenster cheese, thinly sliced
  • 2 tsp parsley flakes

Directions

  1. In a microwave-safe dish, combine the butter, extra virgin olive oil, and garlic. Heat for 1 to 1 1/2 min, till the butter has melted. Stir.
  2. Heat the oven's broiler to 400 . On a baking sheet, place the 2 halves of bread, crust-side down. Toast under the broiler till the bread is a little crusty on top. (For crunchier bread, wait till it has started to brown a little bit.) Remove from oven, but leave the heat on. Brush bread heavily with the garlic-oil mix. Sprinkle the shredded Italian cheese on the bread, then cover with the Muenster slices (overlapping is not only fine, but recommended - you cannot go wrong with cheese). Sprinkle 1 teaspoon parsley over each half of the bread.
  3. Place bread back under the broiler for 30 to 45 seconds, till the cheese JUST begins to turn golden brown. Remove from oven and let cold for a few min.
  4. Slice to your desired thickness, and hide from hungry thieves till meal-time. :-)
