Directions

  1. In a saucepan, stir together sugar and two c. of the water. Bring to a boil and boil for five min. Cold completely. This can be made days in advance. Place the cloves and remaining c. of water in a pot and bring to a boil and cook two min. Let cold overnight.
  2. Strain and throw away cloves. Combine clove water with cooled simple syrup, wine and lemon juice. Pour into an ice cream maker and freeze according to directions. This can be garnished with flowers or possibly herbs or possibly dyed with food coloring to improve the grayish color.
  3. Ice Cream Maker - Transfer mix to ice cream maker, process according to manufacturer's instructions.
  4. Freezer Method - Pour into container, cover, and place mix in the freezer. When it is semi-solid, mash it up with a fork and refreeze again. When frzn, place in a food processor or possibly blender and process till smooth. Cover and refreeze till serving time.
  5. NOTE: Can be prepared 3 days in advance. Cover and keep frzn.
  6. Makes 10 to 12 servings.
