1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 2/3 c. Gold Medal all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
About 3 doz. chocolate stars

Directions

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix sugars, shortening, butter, vanilla and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Mold 2 level teaspoonfuls dough around each star. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake till light brown, 6-7 min. About 3 dozen cookies.
