by Jelli

Guys, ever since living in Italy back in 2012, my heart has been there. The people, the food, the language… In fact, my husband and I are set on moving back within the next few years, so much so that we encourage our kids to watch programs in Italian. Shh… they’re too young to realize how odd that is, and sit patiently enjoying “Paw Patrol” en Italiano. In honor of Italy, I’m excited to have Susan with us today sharing a very basic, delicious panna cotta recipe you’re going to flip for! Learn more about panna cotta and why it is very popular. Then try this simple panna cotta recipe. What’s your favorite dessert? Are you the type of person who can’t leave the table without eating a slice or two of almond sour cream cake? Do you prefer something simpler like cake pops? I can’t pinpoint a favorite dessert, but I got to say that panna cotta is right up there regarding taste and ease of preparation. In this post, I will teach you how to make a simple panna cotta topped with blueberries and strawberries. What is panna cotta? It’s not a stretch of the imagination to say that you have likely seen panna cotta on a restaurant menu. It’s a simple dessert with an Italian heritage. The name is translated to “cooked cream.” It may look like a typical pudding, but it is more than that. Panna cotta consists of sweetened cream texture set with gelatin. The latter is there not just to enhance the flavor but also for the cream to thicken sans the use of eggs or starches, unlike other custard types. Panna cotta is arguably one of the most versatile desserts that you can come across with. You can serve it with chocolate or caramel sauce. You can also serve it with berries, just as what we will do in the recipe that I am about to share with you. History of panna cotta There is no written record to prove how panna cotta came about. One story cites that it was first created by a Hungarian lady in the early 1900s. The said lady was said to have come from the Langhe area in northern Italy. There are also claims that a dictionary published in 1879 made mention of a dish that is very similar to panna cotta. Called latte inglese, the said dish was described as being made of cream cooked with gelatin and then molded. Panna cotta became a hit in the United States starting in the 1990s when restaurants started serving them. Why is panna cotta very popular? I can think of several reasons why panna cotta has become a hit worldwide. Of course, one good reason is that it is so delicious. Second, it is very quick and easy to prepare. For one, you would need a few ingredients that you would likely have in the pantry. As far as preparation is concerned, you only need less than an hour to come up with your own panna cotta. Panna cotta is also a healthy dessert. One, its sugar level can be adjusted. Thus, even people with diabetes can enjoy it. It can also be gluten free, which is another reason why this dessert is widely served. In fact, I always recommend panna cotta to my friends looking to expand their list of gluten-free dessert. Finally, I have realized why panna cotta is very popular in restaurants. For one, the ingredients of this dessert are very cheap so making panna cotta is practical. Moreover, the dessert holds very well in the fridge. You don’t even need to warm or torch it like creme brulee. Simply drizzle a sauce to garnish, and your panna cotta is good to go. As far as presentation is concerned, panna cotta looks very appetizing and beautiful. Wonder no more why you can see panna cotta in almost all restaurant menus.
