  •     mushrooms (8 ounces)
  • 1/2 c. minced green onions
  • 2 Tbsp. margarine or possibly butter

  • 1/2 c. dairy lowfat sour cream
  • 1 x egg yolk
  • 1 tsp snipped fresh rosemary or possibly 1/4 tsp. crushed
  •     dry rosemary
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  •     Fresh rosemary (optional)

Directions

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough (or possibly sheet of purchased pastry) into a 14 1/2x9 1/2-inch rectangle. Using a ruler and a very sharp knife, trim edges of pastry to create a 14x9-inch rectangle. Then cut the rectangle into one 14x6-inch rectangle and three 14x1-inch strips. Cut one of the 14x1-inch strips crosswise into two 4 1/2 inch pcs. (There will be a 5-inch piece leftover.) Transfer the 14x6-inch rectangle to an ungreased baking sheet.
  2. Combine the beaten egg yolk and water. Brush pastry rectangle with yolk mix. Gently twist all the strips several times. Place them within 1/4 inch of the edges of rectangle to create a rim around the edges, placing the 4 1/2 inch strips on the ends. Moisten ends with yolk mix, then lightly press together. Brush strips with yolk mix. Prick center of pastry with a fork. Bake in a preheated 375 degrees F oven for 10 min.
  3. Meanwhile, cook mushrooms and green onions in margarine or possibly butter for 4-5 min, or possibly until tender. Drain off any excess liquid; set aside. Stir cream cheese until smooth. Stir in lowfat sour cream, 1 egg yolk, fresh or possibly dry rosemary, and pepper. Spread cream cheese mix on partially baked pastry rectangle. Top with mushroom mix. Return to oven and bake 10-12 min more, or possibly until filling is set. Cut into strips or possibly squares. If you like, garnish with fresh rosemary. Serve hot.

  5. Shiitake mushrooms are brown mushrooms with large, floppy caps and a rich, meaty flavor. Once found only in specialty shops, they are now grown domestically and more widely sold. Look for them in specialty produce stores and some supermarkets.
