Ingredients Convert Measures
- 1 pound lean hamburger meat
- 1 tbsp. grated onion
- 1 egg
- 2 slices white bread
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 med. onion, sliced
Directions
- Hold a slice of bread under running water and just as the bread becomes too soggy to handle, dump it into a mixing bowl. Repeat for the second slice of bread. Add in the meat, grated onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well and divide into 6 portions (about a scant half c. each).
- Heat some shortening (or possibly use oil) in a large skillet such as an electric frying pan. When pan is warm, add in meatballs. Note which mix is not hard. Flatten slightly with spatula. Brown and turn meatballs. Add in 1 medium onion, sliced. Cover and cook at low heat (about 225 degrees in electric pan) for about 30 min. Remove from pan and serve.
- Option: To the watery onion mix left in the pan, add in about 1/2 tsp. instant coffee and about 2 tsp. ketchup. Add in water, if necessary, and spoon mix over the meat.
