These are the most delicious scones I've ever had. Easy, and they come with lots of compliments.

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  2. In large mixing bowl sift together flour, sugar, powder, soda and salt
  3. Using a pastry blender cut in butter until mixture is the size of course crumbs
  4. . Add dried cranberries and orange rind and toss to coat.Make a well in the center and set aside.
  5. In small bowl blend egg and buttermilk, add all at once to the flour mixture.
  6. Mix just until moistened
  7. Turn dough onto floured work surface and knead 10-12 times
  8. Place dough onto a greased cookie sheet.
  9. Flatten dough into an 8 " ; circle
  10. Frequently dipping knife into flour, cut dough into 8 wedges
  11. Separate wedges by 1";. Bake 20-25 minutes
  12. Place baked scones on a cooling rack
  13. Let cool 5 minutes.
  14. Brush scones with glaze if desired
  15. To Make Glaze:
  16. Just mix together all ingredients for glazing
  17. and spread on scones after they cool.
