Cookies In Syrup (Sheqerpare)

Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. butter softened
  • 2 x egg yolks
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 whl cloves - (to 3)

Directions

  1. Mix 1 c. sugar and butter in bowl. Add in yolks and stir till smooth. Add in flour and baking soda and stir till soft dough forms.
  2. Roll out dough. Cut into 2-inch rounds. Place on baking sheets and bake at 350 degrees till pale gold, 20 min.
  3. Meanwhile, make syrup. Bring remaining 1 c. sugar and water to boil in saucepan and cook till syrup spins a long thread, 10 to 15 min. Remove from heat and season with vanilla and cloves to taste.
  4. Remove cookies from oven when golden brown and cold. Pour warm syrup over cookies. Serve at room temperature.
  5. This recipe yields about 30 (2-inch) cookies.
