Chunky Country Style Spiced Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 2 lb Granny Smith apples, core, peel and slice
  • 2 lb Golden brown Delicious apples, core, peel and slice
  • 2 c. Water
  • 2 Tbsp. Fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 c. Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamon, (generous 1/4 tsp)

Directions

  1. Combine all apples, water and lemon juice in heavy large Dutch oven; bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium; cover and simmer till apples are tender, about 20 min. Uncover and cook till mix thickens, stirring frequently, about 10 min longer. Mash apples slightly with potato masher till chunky applesauce forms. Stir in sugar and spices. Cold. Add in more lemon juice if you like. Transfer to bowl; cover and refrigerateovernight. Can be made ahead and refrigerated up to 2 days.
