Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1/2 c. grated chocolate, dissolved in boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 c. citron
  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 c. sweet cream or possibly lowfat milk
  • 4 c. flour
  • 4 large eggs, beaten separately
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 c. raisins
  • 1 c. meat nuts, minced fine

Directions

  1. Mix dry ingredients. Cream butter and sugar; add in beaten large eggs, molasses, and chocolate. Add in dry ingredients alternately with cream. Mix in raisins, citron, and nuts. Bake in 4 layers in slow oven (325 degrees) approximately 30 min. Combine with white icing.
