About me

I am a "foodie". I enjoy shopping for food ( SF Farmer's Market), discovering new food (Fancy Food Show), watching chefs cook ( Food Network), collecting cookbooks (especially those with a travel/culture theme), cooking ( "30 minute meals) and being with other "foodies".

When I travel, I like to stop at local markets and just walk up and down the aisles, intrigued by the myriad of interesting products - like a kid in a candy shop. I get frustrated when I see poorly labeled products, with no or minimal cooking/preparation instructions. Sometimes I buy products just because I like the container it comes in (De Cecco (spelling?) spaghetti that comes in a beautiful tin container - sadly I've forgotten where I bought it and have been unable to find another since.

Being of Asian decent ( born in Hong Kong of Vietnamese descent), and having spent three-fourths of my adult life in the Bay Area, I enjoy ethnic home style cooking .

I like the flavors of southeast Asia - Hong Kong style Cantonese, Vietnamese , Thai, Malay / Singapore. I also like French bistro style, Basque, Italian (who doesn't like Italian?), & Mediterranean. I wish I can make sushi, but the few times I've tried, I ended up with a mess in my hand.
